Sun Flowers by Jennifer Madden & Jeffrey Reed

In 2003, a work entitled, "Sun Flowers" was installed on at 440 S. California Avenue near Mimosa Lane. "Sun Flowers" consists of seven bronze "flowers" that also function as umbrellas. The slightest breeze makes the petals slowly revolve. Each contains embedded solar batteries that build up energy in the daytime, and then light up at night. In addition, there are elegantly crafted tables and chairs. In recognition of its excellence, "Sun Flowers" was awarded two prizes in 2003 by the prestigious Northern California Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The first was for "Green Design" and the other for "Urban Design." The team of JENNIFER MADDEN & JEFFREY REED has sold is represented by many works throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. "Sun Flowers" was commissioned by the Public Art Commission and funded by the City of Palo Alto, the City of Palo Alto Utilities, and the California Avenue Area Development Association (CAADA).
